Nepal Introduces Online Route Permits for Tourists in Restricted Areas
In an effort to streamline the process for tourists visiting restricted areas, the Department of Immigration has introduced an online system for obtaining route permits for both domestic and international travelers.
The Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) has collaborated with the department to facilitate an easy procedure for issuing 'Route Permits' to tourists planning to explore restricted regions.
Previously, tourists entering restricted areas received permits through a paper-based process, but now, the introduction of the online medium aims to simplify the issuance of these permits. According to TAAN Secretary Binod Sapkota, the initiative has been implemented to enhance the ease of obtaining permits for tourists exploring designated regions.
Director General of the Department of Immigration, Krishna Bahadur Katuwal, mentioned that the online permit system has been opened, but the process might take some time due to its extensive nature.
With the new online system, tourists planning to visit Mustang's upper part, Dolpa's upper part, Gurkha's Manaslu region, Nuwri Valley in Humla district, Simikot in Simkot district, Chankheli, and Namkha in Taplejung can easily obtain permits.
TAAN President Neelhari Bastola emphasized that the online permit system for restricted areas will provide valuable information to trekking enthusiasts and business operators, making the journey for adventure seekers more accessible and convenient.
