Susmita Sunuwar is a woman of extraordinary courage and unwavering determination, whose journey from a young bride in rural Nepal to a pioneer in kayaking and paragliding is nothing short of inspiring.

Born and raised in Okhaldhunga, Susmita entered into marriage with Ramechhap's Sanobabu Sunuwar at the tender age of 14. Despite getting married at a young age and facing societal expectations of prioritizing domestic responsibilities over education, Susmita continued her studies even after marriage, eventually completing 10th grade while managing household duties.

Her journey took a turn when her husband introduced her to the sport of kayaking. Initially unaware of what kayaking entailed, Susmita embraced the sport wholeheartedly, overcoming numerous challenges and setbacks along the way. Susmita embraced kayaking, facing challenges like river currents, water-related health issues, and even temporary vision impairment. Undeterred by societal judgments, she progressed among many male counterparts, breaking barriers and proving her resilience.

Sushmita not only learned kayaking but also worked in other households to contribute financially.

As she honed her skills in kayaking, Susmita's passion for adventure grew. She dreamed of becoming  female paragliding pilot. With her husband encouragement, she embarked on a new adventure, learning to paraglide and eventually obtaining her solo pilot license.

Susmita's achievements in both kayaking and paragliding are remarkable. She became the Nepali Kayaking Champion in 2008 and 2009 and represented Nepal internationally. Her passion for paragliding led her to establish her own company, where she now operates as a commercial pilot, sharing her love for the skies with others.

Beyond her personal accomplishments, Susmita's family serves as a constant source of inspiration. Her sisters, Nikita, and Anuska, have all followed in her footsteps, becoming accomplished pilots themselves. Even her niece, Devaki Sunuwar, has joined the ranks as a pilot.

For Susmita, the joy of flying high above the world is unparalleled. Her work brings her immense satisfaction, as she gets to share her passion with others and inspire them to pursue their dreams fearlessly. She believes that flying not only offers a sense of freedom but also serves as a testament to her resilience and determination.

Today, Susmita stands as a proud testament to the power of perseverance and the limitless potential of the human spirit. From a young bride facing societal expectations to a trailblazing pilot breaking barriers in the sky, her journey embodies the essence of courage, determination, and the relentless pursuit of one's dreams.
